The beaches are a bit far from the city. For example, Playa Maria Chiquita is 14 km away but if that doesn't bother you, it's worth visiting because it has a bathing pavilion as well as a restaurant and a bar. You can try the local specialty, 'sao' which is pig's feet pickled in lime and chillies in Jamaican style (see the stalls on the roadside).
