There are various places where you can swim around the island except the south part where sharks are a regular threat and the beach is kind of rocky too. So, maybe you should try a safe place like the beach of the Taboga Hotel. Here you have to pay 10$ to get in but they give you tokens in return to buy drinks and food. You you want to stay out of the sun you can hire a picnic hut which costs extra.
